Mt. Alvernia High School offers a variety of programmes that provide ways for our young women to develop beyond the academics. This page mentions some of the programmes available. We thank the many individuals and organizations whose support makes it possible to maintain these programmes.

MUSIC PROGRAMME

Under the care of Marguerite Vernon, Mt. Alvernia High School has maintained the position of being the school in the West that produces the best choirs in competitions.
The school has also produced wonderful musicians. Lord Laro worked in the eighties and nineties to organize a talented group of girls into a band that eventually became professional, the New Wave Band.
Below, Bandmaster and Music teacher Vinton Haughton receives a trumpet and a saxophone for the school band from Professor Grimes of Elmhurst College in the United States .

THE SCHOOL CHOIR WITH CHOIR MASTER, MR. HAUGHTON

With Mr. Haughton's guidance, Mt. Alvernia High continues to deliver sterling performances in Music during the Festival. In 2002, there were entries in Gospel, Pop, and apart from the complete choir performing, pieces were done by the Ensemble, as well as soloists. It was a record number of entries!
