The school uniform has certainly changed over the years. A feature of the uniform in the sixties was the JIPPY JAPPA
hat. With the arrival of the seventies, this evolved into a turban and after a few years the public was allowed
to view the uncovered hair of the ladies of Mt. Alvernia High School .
Not many students can attest to having been in the presence of a Cardinal. When he visited Jamaica in the sixties, Cardinal
Cushing, accompanied by the now deceased Archbishop Carter are met at the airport by a group of students. The distinctive
jippy jaapa hat and the even more distinctive bow were worn by students but a tie now replaces the bow.

the Graduation Ceremony at Mt. Alvernia High if they meet the school's standards as set out in the Criteria for Graduation.
